New class is available. It is called the Market Analysis with the course number FIN 4540-02 (96826) this coming fall. It is now named special topics but the name will be changed to Real Estate Economics and Market Analysis later. It is offered every Wednesday from 6 pm to 8: 45 pm.
This course introduces:
- How the real estate prices and rents are decided for residential and commercial properties (retail and office)
- What are the impacts of traffic, crime, and schools on real estate prices
- How to use market analysis tools, like Excel, Stata, and R to analyze the data, like prices, income, education and age
- How to use ArcGIS to map the distribution of residential and retail projects, like Walmart and Costco
It counts as an elective for the real estate major, minor, Real Estate Certificate, and the mortgage banking track in Finance major and minor. It will prepare students for jobs in the industries of REITs, real estate development, appraisal, investment banking, real estate consultant, and with the governments as a city and transportation planner. In addition to the real estate jobs, it also benefits students who intend to find jobs as market and data analysts, and any jobs which require the use of data analysis software, like Stata, R and ArcGIS.
