Congratulations to the 2018 Healthcare Management team (Josue Arvayza, Latrice Brown, Maggie Ramirez and Neel Patel) who once again placed in the top 3 winners of the Western Regional Healthcare Executives College Bowl Case Study Competition. With the guidance of their mentors Professors Barry Hunt, Serj Eyvazian, and Dr. Andre S. Avramchuk, Cal State LA teams continue to outshine tough competitors four of the past five years, demonstrating the quality of our Master of Science in Healthcare Management Program and our graduate students.
The event is a grueling test of knowledge, teamwork and performance under pressure that few students are fortunate enough to experience before they graduate. Facing eleven teams from graduate schools in five states, this year’s team dedicated 60 hours over three weeks in preparation for the event.
The two-round challenge requires teams to first analyze and recommend solutions to a current challenge facing a regional healthcare facility. Teams with the top solutions compete in a second round which adds a new strategic challenge to the case. Teams have only 10 minutes to find a solution and prepare to present. The judges are practicing C-suite executives from the healthcare management industry.
Latrice (Cedar-Sinai), Maggie (AltaMed) and Josue (Children’s Hospital) all work at local healthcare organizations and Neel is a physician from India. Even as industry professionals, the team agreed it was a seminal experience for their future careers. They gained confidence and built lasting friendships while applying academic concepts to practice.
The 2018 competition was held at The California Endowment in Los Angeles on April 9, 2018. For more information about the event contact Mr. Hunt at: [email protected] or Dr. Avramchuk at [email protected]
